2015 Clockwise Championship Round 8 Recap (Group Two)

I didn't catch a great deal of action from group two, but here is a brief review of the action I saw.

The first pass came courtesy of Ross Proud when he held the inside line over Noah Timminston through the loop. Stewart Dee had a bit of a moment at the first corner, spinning out of second place which he had put in a superb qualifying lap to achieve and Steve Langford made a nice move into that same corner to pass Lou Aracsi.

Stewart began a bit of a fight back following his early moment, first passing Simon Lee who had decided to to have a crack at the Clockwise series to increase his track time. Stewart then began attacking Ross, and would succeed in getting by, setting the fastest lap of the race along the way. Brian Steele was also under late pressure from Steve but managed to hold on to finish an excellent second.

The win though was dominated by Terry O'Keefe who pulled an early lead, extended it, and crossed the line without looking under threat for the entirety of the race. Henry Smith had an excellent drive to finish fourth followed by Lou, a former championship driver making a guest appearance this year. Stewart used his pace as the fastest man on track to recover to sixth.

The second race ran a very tight field as the slower guys at the front failed to break away a gap and the faster guys at the back stagnated, struggling to make any significant progress through the field. Henry lost out at turn one allowing Terry through.

There was a bit of contact at the hairpin when Lou got hit and spun out, losing a lot of places. He had the pace in this race though and would set the fastest lap. Terry's progress was halted when he also got tagged and spun out at the same corner while battling with Henry.

Some nice action was happening between Noah and Brian Steele. They began their exchange when Noah got a bit lairy into the hairpin and was seized upon by Brian on the exit. He came right back at him down into T1 though, retaking the position. It was once again into the hairpin that Brian made his move to get by past, stuffing it up the inside. Being cut off from the apex meant Noah also lost out to Henry who was trailing just behind.

The win was taken by Simon Lee who drove a very controlled race, kept his cool and held just enough of a gap to the field behind, allowing him to lap consistently all the way to the flag. The additional track time was certainly proving fruitful. He was tailed by Ross Proud, who kept him in check but didn't have the pace to mount a significant challenge. Steve Langford came home an excellent third completing two podium finishes for the morning, a points haul matched only by Brian Steele who this time finished behind him in fourth.
