Motors TV Karting Challenge
Sutton Circuit makes its TV debut on Motors TV
Earlier this year, Motocross racer and Motors TV Commentator Chris Czora had an epiphany. He realised the ever increasing popularity of Karting and the current state of play in televised Motorsport could present an interesting opportunity for a show on rental kart racing.
He knew it could work, and so using his contacts at Motors TV a plan was hatched for a special pilot episode. But how would he bring the idea to fruition? Where would the event be held and more importantly, where would he find a quality field of drivers?
Thankfully, the latter proved easier than expected. Chris had raced previously with the Rugby Kart Club, a series which frequents Sutton Circuit regularly, and had always been impressed with the level of driving on display. A short conversation with RKC organiser Clark Cowell and it was agreed. The Rugby Kart Club would look after the entry list.
The location was also a no brainer. A social media brainstorm later and the verdict was almost unanimous. Sutton Circuit was where they should race. A phone call to our very own Geoff Deacon and the date was set. This was happening.
In fact, it already has. On Saturday 12th of November, 36 congregated drivers split over three weight categories took part in a filmed 35 minute heat, followed by a Grand Final set up by a one-lap qualifying shootout. Throw some wet and damp conditions to make the racing even tricker, and you have the ingredients for one great show.
It will air on Monday the 28th November 2016, at a provisional time of 7:00PM, broadcast by Motors TV. You will find it on Virgin Media channel 545, Sky channel 447 and probably some illegal channel on the internet, so be sure to tune in and watch. Look out for our Geoff giving the safety briefing like he's taking a Bushtucker Trial, marshal Richard waving the boards like he's on display at a fashion show and some rather uncomfortable drivers who have no idea what a TV camera is, or how to act in front of one. Don't miss it on the 28th.
